Five years ago, when I used Photoshop image editing software to create a series of digital collages from my own photos (‘Best of gaumbART’ gallery see here), I never dreamed that I would one day bring them to life with the help of AI. In the short film ‘Leaving the Scene’ shown above, the protagonists step out of the frame in each of the three sequences.
The three animations used in the video were created on replicate.com with a video model from Minimax. To do this, I had to upload the initial image to my account there and add what I wanted to achieve in a prompt, e.g. ‘Woman on the left leaving the scene’. 180 seconds later, the sequence was born.
Of course, with this method you never quite know at the beginning how the AI model will interpret the prompt. But in a creative process, chance has its charm or, in the case of AI, even a certain end in itself: every output is unique. ‘Leaving the Scene’ contains three sequences that I consider to be quite successful. I have published further examples of animated images here: ‘Bringing gaumbART to Life’.
